Dental Cleaning in Orange County, California

What are the different types of dental cleanings?

There are usually three different types of dental cleanings. One is a regular prophylaxis, where not much is going on, there's not much disease process, and you come in every six months for your cleanings. Another type is called a deep cleaning, which is for when you have gum disease. We do the deep cleaning for you and then put you on maintenance, which means you come every three months to maintain your teeth and get rid of gum disease permanently.

What is the importance of dental cleaning?

Dental cleaning is very important because everything starts with the mouth. The mouth is connected to the world outside, and we put all kinds of stuff in our mouths, carrying a whole bunch of germs. These germs transfer from our mouth to our whole body, making the mouth their playground. It's crucial for us not to become victims to these germs and to control and regularly remove them. That is what a dental cleaning is for.

How often should I have a dental cleaning?

Your hygienist or doctors will personalize your visit and tell you exactly how often you need it. Usually, people see us every six months. Some people need to see us every three to four months, depending on your personal situation and how often you need to see the hygienist.

Is dental cleaning painful?

Dental cleaning is not painful at all, and especially when you come in regularly, it should not hurt at all.

How long should a typical dental cleaning take?

Usually, we schedule about an hour for a teeth cleaning and checkup. If you are due for some x-rays or if there is something going on, we look into that. You see the hygienist, who goes over how to keep your teeth clean and gives you personalized recommendations. That's all.

What happens during a teeth cleaning?

During a teeth cleaning, we check your gums, maybe take some x-rays, look at your teeth, and then the hygienist takes some tools and cleans your teeth. It should be very easy. A lot of my patients really love getting their teeth cleaned and say that they feel really good about it and that even their general health improves.

Are dental hygienists able to remove all tartar during a dental cleaning?

Yes, all the tartar that you have is definitely removed during a dental cleaning.

Can dental cleaning damage the teeth?

No, dental cleaning does not damage the teeth. It just removes all the stuff that has collected on your teeth or gums and cleans it up. It's like vacuuming your house.

Are my teeth sensitive after dental cleaning?

We can talk about your sensitive teeth and give you customized recommendations. We need to see why your teeth are sensitive after a dental cleaning. Normal teeth should not be sensitive after a dental cleaning, so we need to look into your personal circumstances.
